Our Author-Centric "Alternative Hybrid" Approach

Step 1: Manuscript review.

Step 3: Contract & payment.

Step 1: Manuscript review.

Global Justice Journal is the humanitarian arm of Global Justice Journal Foundation, a US-based 501(c)3 organization dedicated to sharing the voices of those who have been silenced by persecution. As such, we welcome social justice-oriented works in all genres from new and established authors regardless of gender, faith, ethnicity, nationality, or sexual orientation. Please see our submission guidelines for more info.

Step 2: Needs Assessment.

Step 3: Contract & payment.

Step 1: Manuscript review.

Once your manuscript is accepted, we'll conduct an assessment of the services that will be needed to get your book press-ready. Typical services include proofreading, editing, type-setting, cover design, and converting your manuscript into a press-ready file. The more press-ready your manuscript at the time of submission, the fewer services you'll need. Please review the fee schedule below for additional details.

Step 3: Contract & payment.

Step 3: Contract & payment.

Step 4: Editing & press prep.

Based on our assessment of the services that will be needed prior to sending your manuscript to press, we will extend an offer to publish your book, accompanied by a contract that describes our mutual rights and responsibilities. In all cases, without exception, authors will retain full rights to their work and 100% of royalties. The only fees charged by Global Justice Journal are those associated with pre-publication services.

Step 4: Editing & press prep.

Step 5: Final revisions & approval.

Step 4: Editing & press prep.

During this phase, we will ensure that your manuscript is typo-free, grammatically and structurally sound, and in alignment with our modified version of the Chicago Manual of Style (which adapts CMS guidelines to the extent needed to honor the voice and cultural traditions of each author). At this time, we will also typeset your manuscript, design a cover (subject to your approval), and assign ISBNs and barcodes.

Step 5: Final revisions & approval.

Step 5: Final revisions & approval.

Step 5: Final revisions & approval.

After you have approved the interior and cover files for your book, we will convert the files to a press-ready format and submit them to our press partners. Within three days, we will receive and review an e-proof and will make adjustments as needed. Once the e-proof is approved on our end, we will forward the file to you. At this time, you can make last-minute revisions or approve the e-proof as-is.

Step 6: Publication & distribution.

Step 5: Final revisions & approval.

Step 5: Final revisions & approval.

Now that you have made all necessary revisions and have approved the e-proof, your book is ready for publication! At this point, we'll order a single copy of the book for your review to ensure the print version meets your expectations. (If you live outside the US, we can handle this final step for you to save time.) Once the print version receives a thumbs-up, your book will be ready for global distribution and marketing!

Frequently Asked Questions

The duration of the publishing process depends on several factors, including but not limited to: the length of the manuscript, the number of images included in the interior file, the volume of revisions, and the author's turnaround time for revisions and approvals. In general, manuscripts will be press-ready in 45-60 days.

Calculating net royalties is complex and must take into consideration the length and size of the book, color and weight of the paper selected, whether the interior is printed in color or black and white, and whether the book is paperback or hard cover. If paperback, printing costs will differ between matte and gloss. If hardcover, printing costs will vary dramatically between a printed cover and a dust jacket. It is important to keep in mind that royalties are typically a fraction of the retail price of a printed book. Although Global Justice Journal does not retain a percentage of our authors' royalties, retailers such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble demand a 45% wholesale discount off the retail price, and the cost of print production will be deducted automatically from the remaining 55% by our press partners. In general, authors can expect to retain $2.50-$5.50 for each sale of a printed book. For this reason, Global Justice Journal will create and market an e-book for each title we publish in print at no additional cost to our authors. For each e-book sold, authors will retain the full retail price minus credit card processing fees.

Yes. You will retain all rights to your intellectual property. Global Justice Journal will simply be the publisher of record.

Yes. An important part of retaining the rights to your work is the freedom to select any publisher you wish. Should you choose to change publishers in the future, the new publisher will need to assign a new ISBN to your book, and Global Justice Journal will remove the book from our list of current titles.

Yes. Since our press partners print on demand, we can revise files anytime you like. However, please keep in mind that our press partners charge a nominal fee (currently $49 USD) for each post-production revision, and you will be responsible for that fee. If you would like to change the price of your book, you may do so at no charge. The new price will appear online in 24-48 hours, and the former price will remain in effect for any orders that preceded the change.

You may be eligible for a refund depending on the stage of the publishing process. For example,  if you change your mind before any work has begun, we will be happy to issue a full refund (minus any credit card processing fees incurred). If work has begun, your prorated refund will be calculated according to the progress that has been made.  Note: while Global Justice Journal does not charge authors for ISBN and barcode assignment, we must nevertheless pay for each ISBN and barcode we assign to a title.  As ISBNs and barcodes cannot be recycled, authors who withdraw from the publishing process after an ISBN and barcode have been assigned will be responsible for the cost of the ISBN and barcode.
